We were served a sample of the amazing conch fritters prepared at the hotel. After the fritters, we continued with our guided tour of the island, with the next stop being the old lighthouse on the coast.

Leaving San Juan
The sail away from San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022 was absolutely perfect. The Carnival Mardi Gras was the first ship to depart, so we got a great view of the cruise terminal with the other ships in port, plus the majestic El Morro fort as we crossed into the Atlantic.

When the Carnival Mardi Gras departed San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022, we watched the sail away from the Serenity area on Deck 18. On a perfect afternoon to be on a cruise ship, the Mardi Gras sailed past the La Puntilla neighborhood of historic Old San Juan.

Once the Carnival Mardi Gras had backed out of the San Juan, Puerto Rico, cruise terminal, we were able to see that several other cruise ships from different cruise lines had also docked in San Juan on an absolutely perfect day in February of 2022.

After the Carnival Mardi Gras spent a full day in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the ship backed out of the docking space at the San Juan Cruise Terminal and slowly turned around for the exit out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Lido Deck
The Lido deck on the Carnival Mardi Gras is a focal point during a cruise vacation. There are many food options to choose from, such as the Blue Iguana Cantina, Seafood Shack, Street Eats, Shaq’s Big Chicken, and, of course, the Lido Marketplace cruise buffet. The Lido deck is also home to a very nice pool and the two-story Red Frog Tiki Bar.

Backing Out
After a full day in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022, the Carnival Mardi Gras began to slowly back out of the cruise pier. On the Starboard side of the ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam was still tied up, and on the Port side, a quantum class ship from Royal Caribbean was also tied up. The Lido deck on the Mardi Gras was alive, with everyone playing in the pool while a DJ provided the entertainment.

For our Carnival Mardi Gras cruise in February 2022, one of the stops we were most excited about was San Juan, Puerto Rico. We’d been to San Juan a few times but never on a cruise where it was just one of the ports of call. After spending the day on a walking excursion, we were up by the Lido pool late in the afternoon as the ship prepared to depart.

On a beautiful afternoon in February 2022, the Carnival Mardi Gras was preparing to leave San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ship had been in port all day on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida. Alongside the Mardi Gras was the Nieuw Amsterdam from Holland America.

Sail Away Warm Up
One of the stops on our February 2022 cruise on the Carnival Mardi Gras was San Juan, Puerto Rico. We had a great day in the city, doing a walking excursion up to one of the forts and then returning to the ship. The ship’s departure time was approaching in the late afternoon, and the Lido pool on Deck 16 was hosting the Sail Away party.

Holland America Next To Us
After a full day in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022, the Carnival Mardi Gras was preparing to depart. The Lido pool on Deck 16 was in full swing, with a Dj providing the music. While filming from one of the elevated platforms in the Serenity area of the ship, we saw the Holland America ship Nieuw Amsterdam next to us in port.

Deck 18 forward on the Carnival Mardi Gras is the adults-only area known as Serenity. Afternoon Pastries
While the Carnival Mardi Gras was docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022, we had plenty of time to roam the ship in the afternoon after lunch. We stopped by the JavaBlue cafe on deck 6 and were pleasantly surprised by the fantastic selection of treats. From muffins to pastries to cakes, they had it all. The atmosphere was relaxed, making it the perfect spot to grab a quick snack and hang out by the Center Stage area.

Back On The Ship
After a busy morning of walking around San Juan, Puerto Rico, it was good to get back onboard the Carnival Mardi Gras and head to the buffet for lunch. We were on a 7-night cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida, in February 2022, and even though it was technically Winter, it was sweltering in San Juan. Hence, the ship’s air conditioning was a welcomed relief.

Old San Juan – Puerto Rico
In February 2022, we cruised on the Carnival Mardi Gras on a 7-night cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida, with stops that included San Juan, Puerto Rico. After a shore excursion to the Castillo San Cristóbal, we returned to the ship by strolling the charming streets of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. The vibrant colors of the buildings, the sounds of local musicians playing music, the delicious smells wafting from the nearby restaurants, and the friendly residents made for a delightful experience. This was only our second time visiting San Juan, but we left with a greater appreciation for the city and the island.

Looking Down At The Ship
While the Carnival Mardi Gras was docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022, we were on a shore excursion to the Castillo San Cristóbal. The view from the top of the fort is fantastic, especially when looking down at the cruise ships docked at the pier. The only downside to this view is the long walk back to the ship, but fortunately, we were going to journey through Old San Juan along the way.

In February 2022, we cruised on the Carnival Mardi Gras, which stopped in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the day. While the ship was docked in port, we were on a shore excursion to the Castillo San Cristóbal. The tunnels inside the fort are a little daunting, but we could appreciate the history and the engineering that went into building them. Thinking about the people who had lived and worked in these tunnels centuries ago was inspiring.

While the Carnival Mardi Gras was docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022, we were off the ship on a shore excursion to the famous fort Castillo San Cristóbal. The walk from the ship up to the fort was a lot of steps, but once we got there, we spent some time exploring the different sections of the fort, and we learned so much about the rich culture and heritage of Puerto Rico. The views from the top of the fort were breathtaking, and we could see the beautiful coastline and the city from a new perspective.

Start Of A Walking Excursion
While the Carnival Mardi Gras was docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in February 2022, we went on a shore excursion to explore Castillo San Cristóbal. It was a remarkable experience to witness the incredible architecture and learn about the history behind the fortress. In addition, the views from the top of the castle were breathtaking, and we were able to snap some amazing photos to capture the moment. Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with adventure and learning, and we would recommend this excursion to anyone visiting the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.

Our cruise on the Carnival Mardi Gras in February 2022 was filled with amazing performances on the Center Stage. The level of talent showcased by the performers was truly awe-inspiring, and we were thoroughly entertained by each and every show. The vibrant energy and captivating performances were undoubtedly one of the most memorable highlights of our trip. By pure coincidence, Super Bowl Sunday happened during our cruise, so the game was displayed on the LED walls at the Center Stage.

The ambiance was electrifying, as everyone looked their best and enjoyed the luxurious surroundings of the ship.
